La pietra il sol rivegga | Marco Bagnoli at the Royal Palace of Caserta
curated by Marina Guida
From July 25 to September 23, the exhibition Marco Bagnoli. The Stone May See the Sun Again will be held at the Royal Palace of Caserta.
The exhibition, selected by the Museum’s Scientific Committee through the Participatory Enhancement Call and curated by Marina Guida, once again brings contemporary art to the Royal Palace of Caserta.
Marco Bagnoli, one of the most significant exponents of the artistic trends that emerged in Italy at the end of the 1970s, has chosen for his exhibition at the Palace part of the words written by Luigi Vanvitelli on the first stone of the Royal Palace: “The stone may see the sun again.”
In the third courtyard, visitors will be welcomed by the site-specific project of the Tuscan artist, Locus Solis, an installation nearly five meters high. The title of the work echoes that of Locus Solus, the best-known work by Raymond Roussel. The initial concept is that of a vase rotating on itself and turning one degree every seventy-two years, in accordance with the precession of the equinoxes. From the vase, a sound landscape is generated, composed of seventy-two alabaster stones arranged in a quincunx pattern.
In the exhibition rooms of the Grand Gallery—the wing of the Royal Palace completely renovated and reopened to the public last March—another eleven works await visitors, to lead them, as stated by the curator, on a “journey, therefore, of ideas, of visions, in time and space, toward a greater understanding of the mechanisms of nature and the universe.”
The project is organized by the Turin gallery Giorgio Persano and Studio Trisorio, with the contribution of Soprarno.
The exhibition will be open until September 23 in the rooms of the west wing of the Grand Gallery of the Royal Palace, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (last admission at 6:20 p.m.), and in the third courtyard during the Museum’s opening hours. Closed on free-admission days.
Admission to the exhibition is included in the standard Museum ticket/subscription.
